Aluminum railings surface mount vs side mounting on deck

Love your site as it is very informative. I just wanted to clarify one item for you.

Aluminum railings do not need to be surface mounted and that welded connections are inferior as welding a structural component such as a base limits the load that the rail will be able to handle due to the heat takes the tempering out of the aluminum -
