Cedar Decking spacing between boards

by Bill
(Ontario)

I'm about to install cedar decking (1" * 6") across the joists.

Should these be laid flush - or with a small gap between. If so - how much gap?

Spacing between deck boards when wet and dry
by: Editor-Rich Bergman

If the boards are wet, you can place them together and when they dry out you will be left with about 1/4" spaces. If they are dry, use a 3.5" spiral nail as a spacer. Works great. And will leave enough room for the boards to expand.
