Deck Height in Relation to a Slider Door?

by Krinkin

I'm wondering how close to the bottom lip of a sliding glass window you can go with the deck? Can you go right underneath or do you have to go a few inches under it (so not to have water issues)?

Space between sliding door sill and deck height

The largest gap you can go with is 7-3/4", the maximum rise in a set of stairs. So you could decrease the gap a bit but I would caution you against getting too close.

First, you really should have a good mechanical sealing system with some flashing if you want to protect the door sill and the rim joist below. You live in NH so I am sure you see snow and ice in the winter time. Even more important to think about this.

I think a safe distance is not closer than 3 or 4" and make sure its water tight from rain, snow, slush and ice.
