Height of Deck Against Door Threshold

Closeup of brick veneer

My wife is a stroke victim, and she wants this deck to be as easy as possible for her to walk out on. She would like it to be as high as possible, with little or no trip hazzard. The original concrete stoop came just below the brick veneer, so there was a 4" step. I am attaching a couple of pics.
I could bring the deck all the way up to the patio door thresholds. My inclination is to drop it down about an inch, to ward off any water buildup during a heavy downpour. But, that 1" could be more of a trip hazzard than an easier to see 4" step.
I am ready to notch the posts to receive the beams, but can't decide how high I want to bring it. What would you do?
Thanks for the replies!
