How to stop movement of a deck

I have a deck that is 12x12 and it has some movement side to side. I need to know how I need to brace it and make it more secure its about 10 years old.

Truss Type Bracing Will Work
by: Anonymous

Assuming that all the lumber in your deck is structurally sound you could add bracing in a diagonal fashion from one corner of the deck to the other underneath the joists.

You can set the 2x4 or 2x6 bracing piece into the lower plane of joists by making a 1.5" deep notch or just screw it directly onto the joist edges.

Also you can add a truss type brace from each support post to the beam. And if the beam is not nearby, secure the brace to a joist.

These measures will indeed stiffen up your deck dramatically. But if your deck is weak because of improper construction or rotted wood you have to deal with that first.
