Sleeper deck
by: Matt DDNW

Yes, give the ACQ .40 treated Douglas fir or dense cedar wood stringers clearance to breath as mention within the comments, strips of the same torch down can be loose laid or heat fused with no compatibility issues.

The greater concern is how this sleeper deck is being attach to your building, for it will not weigh enough to remain in place during severe winds. It may become airborne presenting danger and liability or flutter and puncture the roof, damage you gutter or siding.

Consider rubber cushioning under joists
by: Editor - Rich Bergman

One thing you might consider to both protect your torch on roof from sustaining damage and also to increase the life span of your joists for your roof top deck is to buy some EPDM or Neoprene material.

Get it as thick as you can - perhaps a 1/4" or more if possible and have it cut into strips that are 1"-1.5" wide. Glue them with construction adhesive (PL Premium is good and durable)to the bottom edge of each 2x4 joist.

This should provide a good degree of protection to your roof membrane and keep the joists higher and drier.

I am sure there are other experienced builders out there who may have developed even more ingenious methods so don't be shy. Let's help Gord out.
