Support Post Spacing for Eventual Hot Tub on Deck

by William Joyce
(Derby, CT)

I would like to build 16x16 deck using 2x10 for the frame and 3/4 in plywood for floor. I hope to enclose it one day and have a hot tub on top.

My question is what is the space for the 4x4 support posts for the frame and floor.

Articles on hot tub decks

This is a frequent question and there have been a number of good discussions on building a deck that can support a hot tub. I would highly recommend that you see this post below:

Adding a Hot Tub to Existing Deck

And read it and also the follow up articles which you will find very helpful before you set out to build a deck that can hold a hot tub.
