First time building wrap around deck stairs

by Wes Masters
(Texas)

I am building a deck with a set of wrap around stairs. I have never done this before.

I have the stringers framed out to the corner from both directions and the bottom 2x6 extending out to make my corner of my frame and now I am having trouble figuring out the length and angles of the stringers to fill in the rest. Any advice on what to do next.

Tough to explain how to build wrap around deck stairs
by: Editor - Rich Bergman

Building wrap around deck stairs or cascading stairs as they are also called is actually one of the most advanced carpentry skills any deck builder will have.

It is really difficult to try to explain how to measure, calculate and cut compound miters on stringers which is what is required. It also gets trickier when the grade changes elevation along the landing area.

So it is almost impossible to put this into a calculator to spit out the cutting list. But I would recommend you use the search bar on each page of the site and just type in your keywords for wrap around deck stairs and you will find a number of discussions we have had on this topic.

That is probably best to get you moving in the right direction.
