Stain Color of Deck in Picture Gallery?

by Bill P
(Ontario, Canada)

What is the stain color of the deck picture shown in the picture gallery at this URL.

There are a couple of pictures with this rich type of stain and it is so hard to duplicate by going to paint stores and asking them to match.

It would be nice if you have the stain details to put them into your web site. Thanks.

Superdeck Hardwood Stain might work
by: Editor-Rich Bergman

I wanted to pass on this link to you for a hardwood stain that is designed for hardwoods like Ipe and comes in darker colors.

Check out Duckback Products and their Superdeck Hardwood Stain to see if it is what you are looking for.

Ipe and hardwoods are so dense you really should try to find a stain designed specifically for them or regular oil type stains may not soak in very easily or very deeply.

This deck was in Maui
by: Editor - Rich Bergman

This deck was in Maui and a customer of mine that I visited while on vacation. The wood was an exotic hardwood similar to Ipe or Cumaru. I think many dark walnut type stain would give this kind of effect on that type of wood as it is very dark to begin with.

Also, the winner of the 2010 Coolest Backyard Deck Contest used Ipe for the decking and cedar for the pergola but you will notice in this picture that they acheived a similar dark rich color.

The winner lives in Ottawa, Ontario and the stain used was avaiable locally at the big box stores. It was a semi-transparent oil based stain. But I don't know that exact color you are looking for.

In the meantime I will try to contact the winner again and put you guys in touch! If anyone else knows of specific brands or color names to help out Bill, please comment.
