Using Vinyl Railings and Metal Railing Sections

by Brian

I'm installing a new vinyl railing on our deck of our mountain house. (cold in winter, hot in summer). I've been told to use one with Aluminum "inner support" but others say this is not necessary. What is your opinion?

Vinyl Railings Need Inner Steel Members for strength
by: Rich Bergman - Editor

If I understand you correctly you are referring to the railing systems which use a vinyl shell on the exterior.

Every vinyl system I have seen has either galvanized steel or aluminum inserts within each member of the railing system. This is essential in order to give the railing any rigidity. So be sure to get that.

Perhaps there are some other vinyl railing systems that are stronger and don't require the metal inserts however I have not yet seen any.
